PJP is a family business established 30 years ago to supply specialist plastic products
to the building trade. A market leader, their portfolio includes products such as the
bumper and kicking rails used widely to protect walls and corridors in hospitals.
They also market aluminium balustrades and aides for the disabled such as grab bars.
Although the UK building trade continues in deep recession, PJP are growing steadily as
markets in many parts of Europe, the US and the Pacific rim expand.
Quality communications
Richard Clark, Office Systems Manager for PJP explains, "PJP sell through a distribution
network to every major world market. The fact that we operate in a global market means
we place a high premium on quality commun-ication systems. That's why we turned to
Centreline 2000 and Office 2000 Fax."
Benefits from integrating fax into the system
"Basically, we knew that fax should be an integral part of our business systems because
it would help to give us a competitive advantage. When you deal constantly with overseas
clients, you want your proposal to get there first. You want it to be sitting on their
desk first thing (their time) in the morning."
"Many of the projects our customers are involved in - such as building hospitals -
are immense in terms of cost and time. Decisions are made quickly and we need our
products to be at the forefront of people's minds. Also, we could see the benefits in
terms of saving time and money."
Integrated with Uniplex
PJP's business systems are based on UNIX servers connected to a range of terminals and PC's.
The company uses a closely integrated set of applications based on Informix, Uniplex and
their accounting systems.
Richard Clark again, "we wanted a product that would integrate into the existing system.
It had to be configurable and robust. We chose Office 2000 Fax from Centreline 2000 and
it has proved a wise decision."
A quantifiable improvement in service
PJP have seen a quantifiable improvement in the service they can offer.
"Office 2000 Fax has made a major difference in terms of time, cost and practicality.
About 70% of all our correspondence is now electronic. The system saves between 3 and 4
minutes per fax. With approximately 20 faxes per person, per day - the savings are substantial."
"PJP fax messages include logos, signatures and images. With the auditing and queuing
system, we have tight control over the system. We can use the security features to
block out certain numbers. Users receive messages indicating their faxes have been
successfully sent. With its tight integration into Uniplex, the system also sends
electronic mail indicating if a messages has not been sent."
Robust solution
Richard Clark is delighted with the result. "The system went in very smoothly. The great
benefit of using a UNIX server is that performance is unaffected by batch operations like
printing and faxing. Combine this with the configurability of Office 2000 Fax and Centreline's
expertise and you have a really robust solution."
In the future, Richard Clark will be developing the integration of the fax system further.
"We're looking to add a second line for incoming purchase orders. We want to add the Fax PC
client into the system and we plan to develop the integration with our accounting system.
That is the beauty of the solution. We can continue to tailor it to our specific needs."
