FAXMAKER FOR EXCHANGE 2000 LAUNCHED |
FAXmaker installs as a connector on Exchange 2000, and fax-enables all Exchange 2000 users: Without installing additional client software, users can send and receive faxes from Outlook. Network administrators will not need to worry about additional user administration - FAXmaker integrates with Active Directory and eliminates the need for a separate fax server user database. The minimal fax server configuration that must be done is performed via MMC (Microsoft Management Console).
Besides Exchange 2000 integration, FAXmaker also takes full advantage of new Windows 2000 features - FAXmaker supports the new Windows 2000 modem drivers, thus offering wider fax hardware support. A new feature in FAXmaker for Exchange 2000 is an interface to the HP Digital Sender, allowing users to send paper documents via the fax server easily.
"We are pleased to see FAXmaker now supports Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server," said Branch Hendrix, Group Product Manager at Microsoft. "This will help customers in their deployment of Exchange 2000, as fax is still an important part of everyday business communication to many."
"GFI is the market leading fax connector for Microsoft Exchange Server. The fact GFI is now the first to release a native connector for Exchange 2000 will further strengthen this position. Currently, the most popular way to deploy a fax server is as a fax connector for Exchange server. This trend is clearly shown by the visitors to my website," commented Mike Winter, webmaster of NTFAXFAQ.COM, a site that has reviews of over 150 Windows 2000/NT based fax servers.
FAXmaker for Exchange 2000 features include a multi-line fax server, inbound fax routing, print to fax driver for Windows, support for server-based rendering of Office documents, fax management features and more. Other enterprise features include remote user and fax server administration, least cost routing, user configuration profiles, remote viewing of fax server status, Brooktrout and ISDN card support, and Word mail merge support, allowing users to create personalized fax mailings.
FAXmaker for Exchange has won the prestigious Microsoft Packaged Application Partner of the Year award 2000. The product has been awarded Product of the Year by Internet Telephony Magazine for 2000, by Communications Solutions Magazine for 1999 and by CTI Magazine for 1998, as well as being selected as CTI Magazine Editor's Choice 1999.
Companies using FAXmaker include Telstra - Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company. Microsoft recently released a case study about this installation. Other key organizations using FAXmaker include Microsoft, USAF, Time Warner Cable, Canadian Coast Guard, Siemens, Digital, Compaq, Philips, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and many more.

SETTING COLOURS FOR COMMAND BUTTONS |
Now, Access does not directly support changing the colour of a command button, but you can create the impression of coloured buttons.
1) Select the button's transparent property and set it to Yes
2) Create a rectangle control the same size as your button
3) Set the rectangle control to the colour you want
4) Set the rectangle control Special Effect to Raised
5) Position the button over the rectangle.
6) Drag a box around around both to select both
7) Select Format, Group - that way both objects move as one
Now the button works OK, but you see the colour of the rectangle below.
Things are not done yet though, because the caption text of the button will also be transparent. If you want the text to show, you must then:
8) Create a text label over the button with the caption you want
9) Again group it to the command and rectangle.

AUTODATES IN OUTLOOK |
Outlook has a rather nifty feature called Autodate which lets you enter "human" type dates and works out real dates for you. Let's say you want to enter a new calendar event. You could enter the date exactly or try:
2nd Friday
this Friday
next Friday
You can also use
3 days
thirty days
1 month
But be warned, this add on to whatever date is displayed already
You can also enter dates in the format "March 10th", but it's probably easier to type the usual format.
Finally, some special days, such as "Christmas" also work.

Launch the License Manager and look up the user under the "Clients (Per Seat)" tab. Double click the user for properties and the last time the user logged in is displayed with the other information.
This works for Windows 2000 Servers as well.

IMPROVING COPY IN WEB ADVERTS |
1) End your ad copy telling people what will happen if they buy your product - typically from your most powerful benefit.
2) You could end your copy with what happens if they DON'T buy your product - the fear factor.
3) Or you could end your copy with a question that the reader will always say "Yes" to.
4) Before the very end of your ad copy, summarise with a short review all the benefits of your product.
5) Give readers a deadline, a limited time offer they must respond to quickly (the old "early bird booking" system)
6) Give a powerful guarantee - lifetime warantee, double your money back etc
7) Use testimonials. A good reference will always lift response to your advert
8) Offer a free bonus - it increases the product's percieved value and can be used with a limited time offer.
9) Offer a discounted price if they order now
10) Or maybe you could even offer a free sample or trial.

MICROSOFT ACCUSED OF "IRONY" IN ADVERTISEMENT |
I just love the latest advert from Microsoft for Windows 2000.
Headlined "First Aid Travel Kit for Managers" the advert shows four pills, "for fear of flying, for stress, for stomach ache, for laptop troubles". This last pill is a W2K Pro CD.
Then the copy reads "MS W2K Pro effectively prevents laptop crashes and transfer errors".
Now who's software exactly would you be running before Windows 2000 that gave you those "crashes and transfer errors"? Hm, let me guess...
Bless 'em.
