Centreline 2000 has arranged with Uniplex a special limited time offer to upgrade from any version of Uniplex to the latest V9 release at just £115 per user. For a V7 upgrade this could mean saving nearly £200 per user!

What is in Version 9?

V9.00 is the first major release from Uniplex in some time and includes some great new features. Electronic Mail is fully compliant with the latest Internet features; now fully Year 2000 compliant; new printer drivers; new document convertors and over 150 program fixes.

For V7 or V8.00 users there is also the new file manager, document templates, long file names and extended document management facilities.

The new package also supports web access. Yep, that's direct access to your Uniplex system from anywhere in the world over the Internet! By the way, it works over your LAN too. This is a major tool for integrating Uniplex with Windows.

Key Improvements

Since V8.00 Uniplex Word Processor has had some vital updates, especially the automatic marking of print styles within documents. But sundry smaller features, such as paragraph keep together; pre-styled document templates and simpler font selections have all gone a long way in improving the control of Uniplex. This brings closer to the MS-Word level of document control users now demand.

V9 updates specifically include:

Bringing the Internet Closer

Of course Uniplex Mail was internet ready long before Microsoft had heard of it, but the Internet is a rapidly changing world and Uniplex V9 matches this with support for MIME mail messages. With the Document Conversion module this means you can read messages from most Internet applications, including MS Exchange and Outlook.

Other new mail features include:
* Improved "trashcan"
* New navigation keys speeds reading
* Command line interface for send mail

Year 2000 Compliance

Uniplex V9 is now fully Year 2000 compliant out-of-the-box. This includes all date operations in WP, Spreadsheet and Database.

Although V8.10 could be made Year 2000 workable, earlier versions are definitely not Year 2000 compliant. If you intend using Uniplex for another 18 months you must seriously consider this upgrade.

Support for MS-Office 97

The optional Document Access module now supports the current versions of MS-Word for 2-way conversion. This greatly improves integration of PC's with Uniplex.

The module also has improved file recognition facilities simplifying the browsing of non-Uniplex files.

Coupled with improvements in File Manager speed and the integration with Electronic Mail this makes V9 a good choice for handling multi-format documents.

Spreadsheet and Database

The spreadsheet provides regular autosave functions, and again is Year 2000 compliant.

The database itself is now supports all the latest Informix data types and can be integrated with any version of Informix database engine. Informix 7 Standard Engine ships with V9.0

Database forms now support inline calculations, which resolve a number of tricky problems in building simple database applications.

JAVA Terminal Emulation

This is one of the more interesting options. A terminal emulator which works over your LAN or even the Internet. This means you can directly access you Uniplex system from any Web Browser, on any PC, within your office or on the other side of the world!

Not only a powerful tool to integrate legacy Uniplex into new PC systems. But also, a great way of providing Uniplex to remote workers or from home offices.

Centreline 2000 Review

We believe that this is a worthy upgrade, particularly for V7.x or V8.00 users. The combined leap forward over several releases plus full Year 2000 compliance makes this pretty nearly a "must have" for any dedicated Uniplex site.

Now of course, many Uniplex sites are integrating MS-Office on Windows alongside Uniplex - V9 fully supports this activity and provides a very strong platform for linking all the disparate platforms.

At the amnesty price this is an upgrade that makes sense, a low cost means of maintaining and improving upon your Uniplex investment.

With V9 you only to need order for the exact number of users you need. User packs of 16, 32, 64 etc are no longer required.
