PC-Interface provides full file sharing, terminal emulation and shared printers between your PC's and your Unix system. PC-Interface is the simplest and quickest way of connecting your legacy Unix computer to your Windows 3.x or DOS PC's.

PC-Interface enables DOS, Windows and Macintosh users to share files, applications and printers on Unix servers. PC-Interface is easy to install and use. Users access shared Unix resources with commands they already know - there are no new interfaces to learn. Novell's TCP/IP stack and Winsock is included for client/server application interface. PC-Interface integrates Unix systems into Novell networks and Windows for Workgroups networks.

PC-Interface 5.0 is part of a family of products which also includes PC-Interface Plus 2.0, PC-Interface for Macintosh and PC-Interface Server software.

Personal Computer Requirements

  • IBM PC, PC/XT, or any Intel 80x86-based or Pentium-based computer compatible with an IBM PC/AT or PS/2
  • Minimum 640 KB RAM for DOS operation
  • Minimum 2 MB RAM recommended for Windows operation
  • One high density 3.5" disk drive (5.25" low density floppy media available on request from Locus Customer Support) and a fixed-disk drive
  • MS-DOS 3.3 through MS-DOS 6.2, PC-DOS 6.1, DR DOS 6.0 or Novell DOS 7.0
  • (Optional) Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (support for Windows 3.0 available on request from Locus Customer Support)

Communications requirements

  • Ethernet or Token Ring adapter on PC and UNIX system
  • TCP/IP protocols running on the UNIX system - or -
  • Serial Lines with RS-232 connections

Serial Line Support

Asynchronous communications adapter (COM1 through COM4) up to 19.2K bps

PC-Interface Disk and Memory Usage

PC-Interface 5.0 and PC-Interface Plus 2.0 are implemented as Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) programs and Windows Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs).

All PC-Interface programs may be loaded high (between 640 KB and 1 MB) using MS-DOS 5.0 and 6.0 Memory Manager and third-party memory managers. Following is the DOS memory usage and disk space requirements of PC-Interface:

This broad DOS and Windows system support ensures that you can use virtually any current or future DOS or Windows application with PC-Interface. These Windows, DOS and Groupware applications have been tested.
