Direct Inward Dial (DID)

Any fax sent to normal DID fax numbers can be forwarded by Zetafax to an e-mail account. When picking up e-mail, pick up faxes too. This 'universal in-box' is made possible by DID and the Zetafax e-mail gateway.

Send faxes from Applications

Fax directly from applications such as Word and Excel by printing to the Zetafax printer. The Zetafax addressing dialog box automatically asks where faxes are to be sent. Addresses are entered directly, selected from the address book or a list of previous recipients.

Point to a file and send it to any Group III fax machine. Faxes can be sent on company stationery and include signatures. Zetafax will prepare coversheets.

Prepare your message as an e-mail and address it by fax. The same message can be sent to both fax and internet addresses. It can even include attachments such as Word or Excel files.

Automatic redialing and reconnection

Zetafax includes both fax server software and fax client software. A fax submitted by the fax client or as e-mail is queued at the fax server for sending. The fax server will redial automatically when lines are busy. Should poor line quality cause transmission breaks, Zetafax reconnects and sends the remaining pages without user intervention.

Send clear, easy to read faxes

The quality of fax received by the recipient is improved. Since the fax is computer generated, it does not include the specks, fuzzy edges and other scanning errors which occur when faxing manually. The end result has a high quality feel to it, looking more like a laser printer output than a fax.

Receive faxes on your PC

Zetafax uses several methods to deliver faxes automatically to intended recipients. These include giving each user a personalized fax number or specifying that all faxes from a given sender should be sent to a particular user.

Manual routing

The most basic type of routing is manual. For each fax line, a user or group of users can be notified whenever a fax is received. Whoever is notified can view the new faxes then either print them or forward them to the correct user, using Forward or Send mail menu options.

Automatic inward routing

Automatic inward routing with Zetafax is split into three main types. These are configured and used independently:

• DID routing: The most direct type of routing, - the sender identifies the recipient directly, for example by dialing a specific fax number.
• Sender ID routing: examines who sent the fax to determine the intended recipient.
• Automatic forwarding: All faxes for a specific user are forwarded to another user (often used when someone is sick or away on vacation).

Microsoft BackOffice integration

Zetafax has been designed for Microsoft BackOffice. The 32-bit fax server can run as a Windows NT 4.0 or 3.51 service on a BackOffice server. The Zetafax e-mail gateway option integrates with Microsoft Exchange as a fax connector.

Designed as a true client-server application, Zetafax is available in a range of configurations to suit small workgroups and large sites alike. A Windows or Windows 95 fax server with a low cost fax modem can be expanded to a multi-line Windows NT fax gateway with intelligent fax boards for hundreds of users.

Managing the use of fax

The Zetafax administration tools make monitoring and controlling the use of fax easy. Audit trails for each fax indicate who sent it, along with full details of when and where. These, together with a copy of the fax itself, can be archived to disk or paper. Charge codes may also be used in the itemized billing accounts that Zetafax generates.
