MIME Gateway is an add-on to Uniplex Mail. MIME allows the seamless sending and receiving of any kind of electronic mail message, including documents, spreadsheets and graphics. MIME is supported by all leading internet mail packages including Netscape and Microsoft products.

If you need to integrate your Uniplex or simple Unix mail system into the Internet, or with Microsoft Exchange then you need Office 2000 MIME Gateway.

The MIME Gateway automatically creates MIME "envelopes" for outgoing mail, so Unix/Uniplex mail is correctly encoded for non-Unix recipients.

Similarly, incoming mail is decoded by the MIME gateway and turns in-bound files into standard Uniplex attachments.

What is MIME? MIME (Multipurpose Internet Message Extensions) is the standard method of encoding mail messages for transmission over the Internet. Office 2000 MIME offers MIME encoding/decoding facilities to any UNIX site. Uniplex Integration is also provided in a way that provides completely transparent MIME functionality.

Office 2000 MIME includes:

• A complete UNIX tool set for encoding files and attachments in MIME format, and unpacking MIME encoded mail.
• Completely transparent integration into Uniplex Mail.
• Minimum encoding. Documents that can be transmitted via the Internet without encoding are left un-encoded to allow recipients without MIME aware Mail software to read it.
• Support for decoding uuencoded documents (An older encoding standard popular before the advent of MIME).
• Hooks to allow document conversion tools of your choice to be invoked when the files are encoded prior to sending. Converted document can be sent as a replacement for the original document, or as an additional attachment.
• Hooks to allow documents to be automatically converted when received. Converted documents can be set to replace the original, or to be an additional attachment.
