Uniplex V9
Back to menu
The JAVA based Web enabled terminal emulator is the one of most interesting features in V9.0 for any site attempting to integrate PC's with Uniplex. It provides a full emulation, including Tektronix graphics from any PC to a web host. The web host is your existing Unix server with a web server add-on.

This means you can connect any PC over an ethernet LAN or via Modem over the Internet. Like any PC terminal emulation this allows you to share Uniplex documents with all users. Any users, either ASCII terminal or PC can now access Uniplex mail, which of course is fully Internet capable.

Colour and Mouse

The emulator will support full colour displays on the PC. In addition you can point and click with the mouse for function key and cut and paste actions. This includes cut & paste with Windows applications.

Web Driving - Icon Options

The emulator is embedded directly into a web page, which can be as simple or as complex as you like. You can even use full icon driven access to the emulator, giving a highly graphical feel to Uniplex.

Windows Features

It is likely (but at time of writing to be confirmed) that extra windows features such as drop-down selection boxes can be entirely mouse driven, replacing the old pop-up menu approach of Uniplex and making Uniplex much more "Windows-like".

Information to follow

Details are a little sketchy at time of writing, but Centreline 2000 anticipates being able to provide a full connectivity service, including installation and configuration of the web server, web browser and special graphical interfaces as add-ons to the basic emulation package.

Work from Home or Abroad

The emulator can work over a direct LAN connection or over the Internet. So, if you have remote workers, home office based, or travelling, then by enabling your Unix machine for Internet web serving you can access your Uniplex system at any time from any location.

Imagine, easy access to Uniplex from anywhere, and if with the right Internet Service Provider, it will just cost local phone call charges!

Look out for Centreline 2000 announcements on a complete package for full Uniplex internet access.

Web Server

In addition to the terminal emulation package and a web browser you will also need a web server running on your Unix machine. This also opens up many possibilities for full Intranet capabilities on your Unix machine.

See our many other pages on the benefits of the Intranet and Internet and how your organisation can gain from these functions.

The Uniplex emulator is compatible with nearly any web server and we would recommend the use of Netscape Server as the industry standard Unix web server. You will also need to consider Firewall and other security requirements.
