NT Hail nt_hail_setup.exe (800 KB)NT Hail is a great little utility for sending messages across NT systems.
Emergency Undelete undelete.exe (1.2 MB)For that "Oops!" moment. Emergency Undelete can recover files on Windows NT systems - repeat Windows NT (not later versions). Basically it does what it says on the can. Definitely something you install and hope you never need. Freeware. This is not our software, we just provide a link. Qcheck quickcheck.exe (5.8 MB)Qcheck is a great utility for testing what's happening on your Internet connection. It checks network throughput, determines what rate you can handle streaming video and sound and how much packet loss takes place. You can also test computer to computer. It handles a range of network protocols too. Runs on Windows 95, NT and 2000 and its completely free.
WINDOWS WIDGETS and TOOLS The Rename therename.zip (1.2 MB)The most powerful batch file renaming utility there is! This cracking little program can automatically rename thousands of files to strict naming conventions in seconds. You can rename, add file or folder prefixes, automatically number, convert to lower case, change extension, search and replace and much more. Works in either your current folder or all sub-folders too.
F-PROT - VIRUS PROTECTION fprot.zip (1.2 MB)F-Prot is a free for private use virus checker. Corporate users can find full pricing details in the zip file. Very on the ball group, one of the first to have a "LoveBug" patch. Once installed make sure you download the latest virus updates from the F-Prot web site.
Schizo-Sigs - Makes signature files with random quotes schizosigs.zip (1.3 MB)Something you don't really need, but every bloke wants (this is not a girly thing). Schizosigs generates a new signature block for your email using selected quotes from a shipped database or your own selection. Completely pointless but well worth some quality futzing time!
Password Cracker for Word Documents wfw_password.zip (22 KB)This MS-Word password breaker can be a real life saver. You only password protect the really important documents - and of course the only passwords you forget are the really important ones. This password breaker won't guarantee to find your password but it will have a damn good go. On the flip side it can show you just how weak password protection is...
Split - Splits big files across many diskettes splitm.exe (250 KB)One of those utilities you don't need very often, but when you do, you really do! Running on any Windows platform, Split Master takes any big file and breaks it down over several diskettes, then Split Master can re-build the master file on the new machine. Every now and then you get that combination of machines with no network, no tape, no CD, whatever, where you've got to get some big file across machines. This is it!
RegCleaner - Registry Cleanup regcleaner.exe (500 KB)While RegCleaner isn't the only registry cleaner around, this is one of the more trustworthy versions. You don't need to be an expert to use this program. It shows you the list of registered software in the registry, you just toggle checkboxes to indicate which software you no longer have installed and RegCleaner removes all the registry entries created by those programs for you. Runs on Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000 - completely free.
AutoMailer - dispatch mail automatically automailer_free.exe (250 KB)AutoMailer automatically dispatches files as email-attachments. The files you wish to be mailed must be stored in a user-defined, so called "autoprocessing directory". AutoMailer periodically polls this directory for changes and if a new or modified file is found, it will be e-mailed.
The Windows 95/98 version is free, the NT version is a commercial product.
NetSonic netsonic.exe (800 KB)NetSonic is another one of those browser accelerators. So why pick this one? 1) It keeps its own cache, so you get the speed up benefit for all of the browsers you run on your machine 2) It does "intelligent" look ahead on the pages, downloading them while you are reading the current page 3) You can control how far ahead pages are read 4) You can simply adjust the amount of acceleration while you are on-line. 5) It works! We've been using this for a little while now, and its impressively quick and easy. Not the same as running your own proxy server, but pretty darn close.

Dialup Connection for PC-Enterprise Dialup.psl (1KB .psl)This script is configured for dialup connections for PC-Enterprises' PowerTerm. Just install this file alongside the standard PowerTerm scripts (usually C:PCIBIN) and you can then connect using the standard PowerTerm configuration options. Double your modem speed TCPIPCFG.EXE (66 KB zip)Have you found that your Internet file downloads are very slow, in the range of 1,000 to 1,600 characters per second? It may be the usual Internet overload, or it might be your Windows '95 configuration. There is a problem in '95 where it does not acknowledge a packet transfer fast enough and so the sending machine re-sends the same packet. Effectively you end up receiving twice as much data as you should - which in turn means you are only downloading at half speed. To find out if you have the problem compare the display for "Bytes received/sec" in System Monitor to the characters per second reported by your FTP client or Web browser. The two values should be within 10% of each other. If not it is probably due to the '95 MTU problem. You need to set the "MaxMTU" parameter in your registry to a value of 576. (Full details can be found of the registry can be found in the Windows '95 Resource Kit). You can use regedit to set this up. This is for the brave and/or experienced... This is a Control Panel applet that makes it easy to adjust MaxMTU. It was written by the Navas Group in California and is free for non-commercial use. N.B. You must check you have the correct version of Windows '95. The current applet will only run under Build 950 of '95 - not OEM Service Release 2 or later versions (which are common). To check this:

C2G - Graphics Utilities c2g.zip (130 KB)A free set of very simple, but powerful utilities for graphics files when working on the web. The utilities provide simple DOS command line options for sizing, scaling and rotating images. Plus a few extras for borders and joining images together. A small, but perfectly formed download.
